MERIDIAN - The cell mate of a man who died early Tuesday morning has been charged by investigators with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department with murder.

Thomas Hall, 23, who was serving time for grand larceny and burglary from Pontotoc County, was issued the charges after investigators with the LCSD determined Thursday Hall killed his cell mate, 33-year-old Stuart Brooks.

No motive was given for the alleged incident and LCSD Sheriff Billy Sollie said the final autopsy report has not been issued explaining the exact cause of death.

Investigators were called to the facility shortly before midnight Monday to an initial report Brooks committed suicide in his cell. Sollie said guards transported Brooks to the facility infirmary and then to a Meridian hospital where he was pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

Brooks was serving a three-year sentence for failure to register as a sex offender out of Warren County. Brooks was incarcerated on Sept. 23, 2010.

Hall, who was incarcerated in July 2009 and was due to be released April of 2013, will continue to be held in the Lost Gap facility until a March grand jury rules on whether or not an indictment is warranted.
