STARKVILLE – Mississippi State’s baseball team has a packed weekend, with four games scheduled in a double round robin tournament starting today at Dudy Noble Field.

The Bulldogs (2-1) will start with a game tonight versus Kansas at 6:30. That will be the second game of the day for the Jayhawks (3-0), who will face Mississippi Valley State at 2:30.

On Saturday, MSU plays Valley at noon and Kansas again at 4 p.m. On Sunday is another game versus Valley at 4 p.m.

“This’ll give us a chance to pitch a lot more guys,” MSU coach John Cohen said.

Tonight’s starting pitcher will be sophomore Ben Bracewell (0-0, 0.00 ERA), who started the season opener last week versus Washington State. He allowed no earned runs on three hits in 4 1/3 innings.

He’ll be opposed by Kansas freshman Wes Benjamin (1-0, 1.29). The Jayhawks are in the midst of a 10-game road trip to open the season. Last weekend they defeated Middle Tennessee State, Bowling Green and Belmont.

MSU is led at the plate by junior Trey Porter, who was 6 of 10 with two home runs and four RBIs last weekend.

Mississippi Valley State is 0-3, most recently losing to Delta State, 11-2, on Tuesday.
