A line of severe storms that already killed at least 13 people in the Midwest could hit Tupelo later today, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.

The storm system unleashed tornadoes on towns in Illinois, Kansas and Missouri, the Associated Press reported. It's now moving east and could reach Mississippi by night.

"Areas targeted by violent storms into this evening will stretch from the Tennessee Valley to the Ohio Valley and include the cities of Nashville, Tenn., London, Ky., Charlestone W.V., Tupelo, Miss., and Huntsville, Ala.," AccuWeather said in a press release today.

In addition to the threat of tornadoes, meteorologists also warn of damaging winds and large hail.

North Mississippi still is recovering from tornadoes that hit the area – and particularly Wren and Smithville – in April.
