The Rebels began spring drills Friday with focus being on attitude and effort rather than execution.
"In our team meeting today we asked them to give us 15 days of great attitude and effort. By no means will we be perfect, and we certainly weren't today. A lot of mistakes we have got to get cleaned up, but as far as attitude and effort, I really thought they handled that pretty well," Freeze said.
Returning players Zach Stoudt, Randall Mackey and Barry Brunetti will compete for the quarterback job along with junior college transfer Bo Wallace, who played at East Mississippi.
Freeze had little to say about his quarterbacks, saying he wanted a thorough evaluation of the film first.
Wallace, who redshirted under Freeze at Arkansas State, said he remembered about "80 percent" of the up-tempo system Freeze is installing at Ole Miss.
A couple of position notes, Charles Sawyer was back at cornerback after spending much of last year at safety.
Junior college transfer Pierce Burton ran with the first team offensive line at right tackle, and senior A.J. Hawkins, a starter at center until the middle of the season, ran with the first team at right guard.
