Mississippi State steps out of SEC play today to play host to Alcorn State. First pitch at Dudy Noble Field is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs (16-9) are coming off a pair of SEC losses to No. 3 Arkansas.

Starting on the mound tonight for MSU will be freshman Will Cox (1-1, 5.62 ERA), an Amory product.

Alcorn State (6-17) won the SWAC regular-season title last year and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. MSU leads the series with Alcorn, 10-0.
