ABERDEEN – Democratic Executive Committee members in Aberdeen conducted a recount today of Ward 1 votes to include absentee ballots that had been missed during the primary election on April 3, 2012. Of the 26 absentee ballots, one was an undervote.

The new count did not change the outcome of the Ward 1 alderman race between Alonzo Sykes, Sr. and Robert A. Duvaull, who requested the recount. Sykes won 181 votes to Duvaull's 149.

The absentee votes added an additional 8 votes for mayoral candidate Cecil S. Belle and 15 votes for Maurice Howard. Their final totals: Belle, 675; Howard, 543.

The run-off elections will be Tuesday, April 17.
