Randy Thweatt arrest video | Stacey Pickering's YouTube channel | April 17, 2012
UPDATE (Chris Kieffer): Lee County's School Board met for about an hour in a specially-called meeting Tuesday night. They discussed a personnel matter in executive session, but took no action. Thweatt, who posted bond earlier in the afternoon, remains on paid administrative leave from the district.
TUPELO – State auditor Stacey Pickering today announced the arrest of Randy Thweatt, business manager for the Lee County School District.
Thweatt, 50, was arrested at the school office. A vehicle, titled in his name, was purchased by the school district and seized today.
A justice court hearing set his bond at $10,000.
Pickering also alleged that Thweatt took a working air conditioner unit and had school district employees install it at a mobile home Thweatt owned in Starkville.
The second-term auditor said that after Thweatt's arrest about 8 a.m., investigators met with district officials, including the superintendent and board president.
Jimmy Weeks, Lee County's school superintendent, issued the following statement:
"The district has been made aware of the charges against Mr. Thweatt. At this time, the district has no further information. Mr. Thweatt has been placed on administrative leave effective today, April 17, 2012."
All property belonging to the school district will be returned, Pickering said.
"It is alleged that Thweatt took a working air conditioner unit and had school district employees install it at a mobile home he owned in Starkville," the auditor said.
"In addition, our records show that a truck purchased by the school district recently had the title transferred in to Randy Thweatt's name on Feb. 16."
Later today, the truck and air conditioner will be displayed at the District Attorney's office.
