Gov. Phil Bryant signed an order declaring a state of emergency in the Aberdeen School District.

Bryant signed the order Friday afternoon after the state Board of Education found that "an extreme emergency situation exists in the Aberdeen School District which jeopardizes the safety, security and educational interests of the children."

Earlier Friday the Board named Bob Strebeck of Decatur as conservator of the Aberdeen District. Under the emergency order, the local School Board will be dissolved, the state will take over and Strebeck will run the district.
