Fulton's Chad Ramey second at SEC men's golf

Mississippi State freshman Chad Ramey shot a 3-under 67 on Friday for a share of the lead at the SEC Men’s Golf Championship at St. Simons Island, Ga.

Ramey, a sophomore from Fulton, had three birdies and no bogeys in his round. MSU senior Alex Rowland (70), from Houston, was tied for 14th.

“Chad and Alex both stepped up big today and played some outstanding golf,” said MSU coach Clay Homan.

For Ole Miss, Joe David and Blake Morris each shot a 71 and were tied for 20th.

Alabama’s Bobby Wyatt leads the field with 67.

In the team chase, Alabama (272) led Georgia (273) and Auburn (277). Ole Miss (287) was eighth and MSU (289) was in a three-team tie for ninth.

SEC women: MSU freshman Ally McDonald, from Fulton, shot a 77 on Friday at Fayetteville Arkansas and was tied for 16th after the first round of the SEC women’s championship.

Ole Miss junior Ericka Schneider shot a 74 and was tied for eighth.

Alabama (297) held a nine-stroke lead over Auburn (306). Ole Miss (309) was tied for fifth and MSU (315) tied for eighth.
