CORINTH – One man is dead and another is in custody after an early Saturday morning shooting in Corinth.

Police Chief David Lancaster said Tavarus Holland, 29, of Dickey Street in Corinth, was shot once outside the American Legion building on South Tate Street shortly after midnight Friday. Holland was pronounced dead a short time later at Magnolia Regional Health Center.

On Saturday, Norman Tyrone Mitchell, 36, of Martin Luther King Drive in Corinth, was taken into custody. He is expected to be charged Monday. Lancaster said it appears Mitchell acted alone and no other suspects are being sought.

The chief said Holland was shot in the parking lot of the American Legion building as he was on his way to his vehicle. Lancaster said a motive is unclear at this time and the case is still under investigation.
