COLUMBUS — A municipal court appearance for a Columbus woman charged in a fatal shooting has been rescheduled for Sept. 6.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that Kalmesha Denise Jackson is charged with murder in the Jan. 15 shooting death of Marquez Kentrel Carter.

Jackson had been scheduled to be court this past week.

Authorities say Jackson allegedly was handling a gun in the front seat of her car when the gun discharged and struck Carter who was sitting in the passenger's seat.

Carter died of a gunshot wound in the head.

Jackson remains in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
