Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett tells the Starkville Daily News that the funds are for seat belt and DUI enforcement.
Garnett says $25,000 of the money will be used to pay deputies overtime and increase the total number of patrols in the county.
On a typical 12-hour shift, Garnett said the department averages four deputies on patrol, a number which includes a shift supervisor. Garnet says OCSO can tap into the grant money and add additional manpower as needed to extend those extra patrols through the year.
The county will also use $5,000 to buy 10 portable breathalyzers.
