Four more children were injured in the accident and taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital - Union County, one by ambulance, the other three by private vehicle.
Trooper Casey Mayo of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said Laurie Phillips, 42, of New Albany, was transported to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
Mayo said the three who were taken to Memphis were transported in severe condition.
The driver of the dump truck, Jimmy Green, 66, of Southaven, was uninjured.
Mayo said the 2004 Pontiac Van was traveling eastbound on Highway 78 when it collided with the rear of the dump truck that was turning into the median from the left lane.
