SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Baldwyn High School junior Alicia Dixon was a finalist recently at DECA’s 66th annual International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Participants qualified for the conference with a high placement at the regional and state level. Fellow Baldwyn juniors Sam Griffin and Hana Grace James also qualified for the international conference.
Dixon competed in the principles of finance event. She reached the finals by her score on an extensive exam and her performance in a role-play scenario before judges. She is the only Mississippi student to reach the finals.
Baldwyn’s DECA adviser is David Griffin. During the school year, about 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members participated in its competitions. The international conference was held April 28-May 1 and featured 10,000 students from five countries.
Northeast Community College to host Mobile Learning Conference
BOONEVILLE – Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Division of Continuing Education will host its fourth annual Mobile Learning Conference on June 6-8 in Holliday and Waller halls on the Booneville campus.
AT&T’s Nadir Khan, Apple’s Andre Vlajk and Apple Distinguished Educator Larry Anderson are among the many presenters slated for the three-day conference. Mercer University’s Jarbari Cain is also among the speakers.
Each day begins at 8 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. Cost for the conference is $150, and the three-day event is open to the public.

Itawamba Community College’s Cole receives PTK award
FULTON – Itawamba Community College President David Cole has been selected as a recipient of Phi Theta Kappa’s Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction.
The award, which is named in honor of PTK’s longest serving board chair, was presented recently during the society’s Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn.
Cole became the fourth president of ICC in January 1993 after having served for nearly two decades as superintendent of South Panola School District in Batesville.
The Tupelo Campus PTK Chapter nominated Cole for the award.
ICC registration has begun
FULTON – Registration is under way for summer and fall classes at Itawamba Community College. The only exception is that 2012 high school graduates must participate in orientation this summer before registering for fall classes. Online registration is now open for freshmen orientation at www.iccms.edu.
First summer term day, full-term, after-work, weekend, evening and Internet classes begin May 29, and the second-term day classes start June 28. Fall classes begin Aug. 9.
