Two Sonic employees at the West Main location were shot by an unknown gunman as they were leaving work early Friday morning.

Tupelo Police Capt. Tim Tate said the victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and drove themselves to the North Mississippi Medical Center.

"Basically the two employees came out getting ready to go to the bank," Tate said. "We're assuming the motive is robbery but that's not even clear at this point because the suspect didn't get the money."

The shooting happened around 12:45 a.m.

The shots appeared to have come from Parkway Terrace Apartments, next door to the Sonic Drive Inn.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi at 1-800-773-Tips (8477). Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1000.00 for information that leads to an arrest in this crime.
