Pair pleads guilty to yard sale scam

ABERDEEN - Terry Brown and Anthony Jones pleaded guilty Monday to one count of passing counterfeit notes at Tupelo yard sales.

Each faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Brown, 46, of Huntingdon, Tenn., and Jones, 41, of Birmingham, Ala., were arrested in August 2011 on accusations they purchased merchandise at several yard sales and paid for it with fake U.S. currency.

They were indicted on four counts each later in August and were scheduled to go on trial Monday.

Of convicted on all counts, they faced up to 60 years in prison and a $1-million fine.
