Iuka man dies in early morning accident today

IUKA – A 51-year-old Iuka man died when the vehicle he was driving left the road and flipped, pinning him inside.

Billy Gene Stewart, of Iuka, was westbound on Pike Street in Iuka, just past the Fulton Road intersection, said Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon, when he went off the left side of the road down into a ravine, clipped a tree and became airborne and flipped over. He was driving a 1982 Dodge Rampage, an old car-truck hybrid vehicle with two passenger seats and a cargo bed.

A passing motorist spotted him and placed a call to emergency personnel about 1:15 a.m. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
