PHILADELPHIA, Miss. — Philadelphia police say a 3-year-old child died Monday of heat exposure after being left in a car.

Police Chief Richard Sistrunk says autopsy results came in Tuesday and the child's death was ruled an accident. He says the death will be investigated.

The name of the victim and the parent are not being released. Sistrunk says the parent rushed the child to the hospital, but doctors could not revive the child.

Sistrunk says all of the findings from the investigation will be submitted to the district attorney.

Sistrunk says it appears the child was accidentally left alone in the vehicle for an extended period.
