WEST POINT — The city of West Point will pay a little more for inmate housing in a revised agreement approved this week with Clay County.

The Daily Times Leader reports that West Point will now pay $68,000, which is the cost of two jailers' salaries plus benefits.

The city will also be responsible for paying $3.20 per inmate meal as well as booking fees to the county.

Officials say the total amount the city will pay is about $84,000 a year.

Under the old contract, which was terminated by the county in May, the city was being billed a flat rate of $30 per inmate and would have been billed $35 a day per inmate if the city decided not to renew a contract with the county.
