“Main and Me” is a national website that lets local stores and restaurants promote themselves on a platform similar to Pinterest.com.
The site lets merchants upload photos of their new merchandise and puts it online, according to Jessica Reed, Main Street’s new marketing associate.
The site – beta.mainandme.com – isn’t ready for the public yet, but Reed is working with downtown merchants to get them on the new site.
“It helps you reach customers who are on smartphones and shopping on the Internet,” she told a group of retailers last week.
The site is open to downtown events, organizations, stores and restaurants. Each entity creates a board, similar to Pinterest. Only active, dues-paying members of Main Street are allowed to showcase their information or merchandise on the site.
Debbie Brangenberg, executive director of Main Street, said the goal is to get the site launched for the public before the holiday shopping season begins.
Then, shoppers will create accounts on Main and Me and will have access to merchandise.
They can create wishlists, Reed said, and the goal is to eventually convert the platform into an e-commerce site.
Reed and the Main Street staff have to create accounts for merchants who want to participate. Contact them at (662) 841-6598 for more information.
