Earnest Conrod, now 79, shot and killed Melvin "Buster" Brown in 1994. The Mississippi Department of Corrections is considering a conditional medical release for Conrod. But Brown's family objects. And Epps tells The Greenwood Commonwealth that he usually sides with the victims in such matters.
Epps said Conrod is going through a process spelled out in state law when an inmate becomes bedridden. He said a doctor does an evaluation and the judge, district attorney and sheriff are consulted.
The ultimate decision lies with Epps and Department of Corrections' medical director.
