COLUMBUS - A 23-year-old Columbus man has been charged with capital murder in a 2011 slaying.

Police say Myron Sewell was denied bond Friday in an appearance before Municipal Judge Nicole Clinkscales.

Police Chief Selvain McQueen says Sewell is charged in the shooting death of 41-year-old Willie Vaughn in September of 2011. Vaughn was shot in the yard of his father's house and died on the way to a hospital.

McQueen says Sewell was in the Lowndes County jail when charged in the slaying. Sewell was being held on sexual battery, robbery and trespassing charges.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 6.
