The Rev. William McAlilly, former senior minister of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo, has been elected a bishop of the United Methodist Church by the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference, meeting at Lake Junaluska, N.C., a church website reported.

McAlilly left Tupelo and accepted appointment as district superintendent of the Mississippi Conference’s Gulf Coast counties and congregations.
