Council members, who had been prepared to vote on the matter this week, instead moved it to its Aug. 21 agenda on the advice of its attorney.
The matter concerns a minor land issue related to the property's plat and deed that the council must clear up before the parcel can be sold.
Tupelo restaurant owner Blair Hughes and her husband, Hamp, are interested in buying the building and opening a restaurant there.
The building has been vacant since the restaurant at 706 Hillcrest Drive closed May 13. A sign was posted at the time inside the door saying the restaurant was closed for renovations and would reopen soon. Months later, two for-sale signs were posted on the property.
Hughes owns Park Heights in downtown Tupelo. She’s part of the family ownership of the Eat With Us Group, which includes Park Heights, Fairpark Grill, Harveys and Sweet Peppers Deli.
On Tuesday, she said if the sale happens, she hopes to renovate the building and convert it into an upscale soul food restaurant.
She plans for it to be a little more casual than Park Heights, which is one of Tupelo’s more upscale restaurants.
