Thomas is expected to be out about six weeks and could return in time for preseason practices, which begin Oct. 12. MSU’s season starts Nov. 9 at Troy.
Thomas, a 6-foot-3 guard from Jackson Jim Hill, just received NCAA academic clearance last week. He’s expected to compete for a starting job.
He averaged 19.9 points and 5.9 rebounds last season and led Jim Hill to the Class 6A state title, beating Tupelo in the finals.
Earlier this month, freshman point guard Jacoby Davis underwent ACL surgery and is likely out for the season.
