Bill Nershi – famous as a founding member of legendary jam band the String Cheese Incident – has turned his lifelong love of bluegrass into a band, the Emmitt-Nershi Band, which he formed with Leftover Salmon’s Drew Emmitt. The band is headlining this month’s Down on Main concert tonight at Fairpark in Tupelo.

Living history camp to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month
A living history encampment, representing the expedition of Hernando de Soto, will be at the Natchez Trace Parkway’s Visitors Center in Tupelo on Saturday.
Through stories, demonstrations and hands-on activities, visitors can learn about de Soto’s interactions with the Chickasaw on the Natchez Trace.
The encampment will be set up from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. It’s free.

Nash Street changes name, has gig in Oxford this weekend
Nash Street was a bluegrass band from Starkville, but now they’re a bluegrass duo from Nashville going by the name HanaLena.
Sisters Hannah and Caroline Melby may have changed the band up a bit, but they’re still playing bluegrass and country.
The pair will perform at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rooster’s Blues House in Oxford. It’s $5.

Campus Country sets first show of the year
“Cowboys and Angels” is the first show of the season for Northeast Mississippi Community College’s country music performing group Campus Country.
Under first-year director Chris Dunn, the group will take the stage at the Seth Pounds Auditorium on the Booneville campus at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The show will include hits like Little Big Town’s “Pontoon” and “Settlin’” by Sugarland, as well as classic favorites like “Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye and “Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt.
Students in Campus Country are from across North Mississippi and west Tennessee, including members from Corinth, Tupelo, Baldwyn, Blue Mountain and Saltillo.
