About 60 Girl Scouts from the Tupelo area spread out through neighborhoods between Fairpark and Robins, Clark and East Jackson streets to distribute flyers about the Oct. 27 event.
"This was something the girls could do in advance and many of them also volunteer on race day to help with all the different aspects of the event," said Jenny Jones, a spokeswoman for Girl Scouts Heart of the South.
About 13 members of Troop 20130, which meets at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church on South Gloster Street, passed out flyers in communities along Jefferson, North Green and Franklin streets.
"We're just letting the neighborhoods know what they can do to support the Race for the Cure," said Troop Leader Anita Ambrose. "The flyers include information about yard signs and ribbons people can buy for their houses and yards."
At the conclusion of their walk, the girls assembled baskets to be taken to the cancer treatment center for women who are currently going through treatment.
