The Trojans never looked back after taking a 3-0 lead off a three-run home run by Caleb Hanley in the bottom of the first as they cruised to a 10-0 win in five innings over in-county rival Vardaman.

Bruce scored 10 runs off 9 hits while Vardaman could only string together 4 hits on the night that left two runners on in scoring position for the Rams.

Barrett Wooten singled to center to score Tiny Moore to end the game in the bottom of the fifth. Wooten went three-for-four in the game with a trio of singles, a stolen base, one RBI, and scored two runs. Moore finished two-for-two with a walk, a stolen base, and three runs scored.

Blake Tallent went two-for-two with a pair of singles for the Rams.

Jay King faced 21 Bruce batters to strike out six and only walking one in the win. Austin Spann, transfer from Smithville, was saddled with the loss working three innings to give five runs on three hits and four walks against 17 batters faced.

Bruce 10 Houlka 0 (5 innings)

"We were coming of back-to-back one-run losses so the girls were down, but did a good job to come out and get a lead early," said first-year Lady Trojan head coach, Seth Burt.

"Taylor Moore set the tone for us by getting on base early, Raven Nabors hit the ball really well for us, but I felt like it was a good total team effort."

Bruce improves to 2-3 on the year with the win.
