The opening of four-lane Mississippi Highway 6/U.S. 278 from Mississippi Highway 342 in Pontotoc County to U.S. 45 in Tupelo tentatively has a “pencil-in” date of May 30, 2013, Mississippi Department of Transportation and Appalachian Regional Commission officials confirmed Monday.

The opening, which is tentative for the date, would mark completion of four-lane work on the highway between Batesville and Tupelo. The highway is also designated Appalachian Corridor V, a link in the federal Appalachian Development Highway System.
