The completion date is May 30, 2014, not May 30, 2013, as MDOT confirmed to the Daily Journal on Monday afternoon and as reported in Tuesday's edition.
MDOT engineer Jamie McDonald said a list of completion dates incorrectly listed 2013. MDOT District Engineer Bill Jamieson referred to that list while in the Tupelo office on Monday.
"It was off a typo on the list," McDonald said.
McDonald said there is no way the work remaining could be completed by 2013.
"I apologize for that," Jamieson said in a telephone call from Jackson, where he was working at MDOT headquarters on Tuesday. "I saw the date and read it to you, and I actually thought it seemed a little early, but I decided to trust the list as it was typed."
The approximately 10-mile stretch is the final link in the new Highway 6, which will be four-laned from Tupelo to Batesville on completion of the mileage under paving contract.
