WALNUT - The Mississippi Department of Public Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration held a public hearing Thursday in Walnut to present the alternatives developed for proposed improvements to a section of Highway 15.

The section is about three miles between County Road 312 and U.S. Highway 72. MDOT prepared three alternatives that have been modified to address public comments from a similar public meeting in July 2011.

Written comments received by Oct. 25 will be taken into consideration for a final plan. At this time there is no designated preferred alternative; however, the majority of Walnut residents present at Thursday's meeting preferred the alternative that transforms Hwy. 15 into a five-lane road and leaves the intersection with U.S. 72.
