LELAND, Miss. (AP) — DuPont Pioneer plans to begin construction Thursday on a new $3 million research center in Leland.

Company spokeswoman Saundra Campbell tells the Delta Democrat Times (http://bit.ly/RcmkjN) that the center will target the vast corn and soybean markets of the Mississippi Delta.

Campbell says Dupont plans to conduct testing, breeding, characterization and product development of soybeans and corn.

The site will also be home of DuPont Pioneer's Intensively Managed Product Advancement Characterization and Training plots for corn and soybean products in the Delta.

The research center will be located along old Highway 61 in Leland.

It is projected to be completed by spring 2013.
