East Webster's perfect record.

Chickasaw Journal

HOUSTON - The Houston Lady Toppers softball team put a mar on the unbeaten record of the Lady Wolves of East Webster last Saturday. The Houston girls battled back from a slow start and got a rally going for an 8-6 win and a close "county-cousin" victory.

Dominique Moore and Shelby Whitt had two singles each, with Haley Gravat had a single and a triple. Hanna Wilson stole the show with a single and triple for four RBI.

The Lady Toppers got the win to finish an up and down week.

"We have struggled to stay consistent," said Coach Keith Jernigan. "We play well one game and then struggle to hit and make too many errors the next."

Jernigan said that the team is spending a lot of time on the field this spring.

"The season was shortened by two weeks this year which left us playing four or five days each week," Jernigan said. "That doesn't leave much time for practice or rest."

"We have managed to get some wins over some of the better teams in our area," Jernigan said. "They girls are beginning to hit much better which helps a lot. Defensive errors have been our main problem but hopefully we have started to settle in on positions which should help."

Upcoming action

The Lady Toppers were set to host Amory on Tuesday and then hit the road to Aberdeen on Thursday, Bruce on Friday and the South Pontotoc tournament on Saturday. They will be back in town hosting Louisville on March 16.
