BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Chuck and Pam Carson of Houston have recently had a scholarship named in their honor at Samford University's Brock School of Business.

The Carson's, who for the last 33 years have operated Carson's Department Store in Houston, recently retired from their retail store that has been a fixture on Houston's square since 1975.

The scholarship, which will be awarded to an Entrepreneurship student who has shown an interest in mission work and plans to work for a family business, will be awarded for the first time at Samford's Awards Day ceremonies on May 1.

The scholarship has been created by the Carson's children, Dr. Chad Carson and his wife Merry of Birmingham, Edgar and Kelli (Carson) McKee of Gulf Shores, and Josh Carson of Houston.

The scholarship, which honors the Carson's work in the business and community life of Houston and Chickasaw County, will be given on a yearly basis.

Friends wishing to contribute to the scholarship should contact Robert Blakely at 205-726-4108 or rblakely@samford.edu.
