The Monroe County Board of Supervisors approved for Sheriff Cecil Cantrell to facilitate a partnership between the Amory Humane Society, Aberdeen Animal Shelter and the Mississippi Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division in a search for qualified dogs to help those with handicap impairments.
Prospective dogs for the program would lead the blind and help others with different impairments.
"This program is something good for the county and there is no fee. We would operate in the vicinity of the jail and use inmates to work with the dogs, which also helps rehabilitate the prisoners," Cantrell said.
