Tupelo temporarily is home to two hotels with the Comfort Inn brand. This week, the Regal Inn & Suites, formerly Mictrotel, unveiled a Comfort Inn sign at its property on McCullough Boulevard. The name change becomes official Nov. 1.

The current Comfort Inn on North Gloster Street will be rebranded as a Quality Inn. Carolyn Moss, general manager of the Comfort Inn, said the brand is being changed because it has exterior entrances to its rooms, the mark of a Quality Inn. A change in service or facilities did not trigger the change, Moss has previously said.

The renamed Regal Inn & Suites, while featuring the Comfort Inn sign, likely will not be reopened until January, said Alan Burns, director of operations for hotel owner Fusion Hospitality. The 59-room hotel has been completely gutted, with an elevator added and all-new rooms, he said.
