It’s a hometown tradition with a tradition of serving good hometown food.

Saxon’s Drive-In has been serving hamburgers, fries and fun at the same location in Houston for more than 40 years.

“We have people bring their children and grandchildren here and tell them stories about this place,” said Ashley Henry. “They buy them the same milkshake or ice cream flavor they liked when they were a kid.”

The business was founded by Patricia and the late Glen Saxon and has been owned by Odis and Ashley Henry for the past five years.

Saxon’s is a traditional short-order grill with all meals cooked to order from fresh ingredients usually bought from local stores.

“We work fast – especially at lunchtime – but we are not fast food,” said Henry. “We like to say we are good food served quick.”

The drive-in has the traditional window on the front, but most people park and walk up to the window on the east side of the store. Employees know most customers and have for years. Ashley said they have worked hard to continue the tradition started by the Saxons.

“Some of the items on the menu have been there since the beginning,” Ashley said. The big seller at Saxon’s is the hamburger and fries with a milkshake and it has been for years. New to the menu are the “Sliders” – four small yeast rolls sporting a hamburger patty and various toppings.

Saxon’s also offers fried chicken fingers, barbecue and country fried steak. For dessert, it serves Blue Bell ice cream and milkshakes.
