Women's apparel retailer Chico’s has announced intentions to open a store in Tupelo.

The retailer has turned in plans for a store inside The Mall at Barnes Crossing. The proposed space is near the food court.

Chico’s (website) specializes in women’s clothing and accessories. Chico’s parent company, Chico’s FAS, owns Chico’s, White House | Black Market, Soma Intimates and Boston Proper.

The company operates more than 601 Chico’s boutiques and 83 outlets.

Phillip Purdom, senior vice president and mall leasing for the mall’s co-owner, David Hocker & Associates, said a lease has not been signed and could not comment about the plans.
