Constance Slaughter-Harvey, a Jackson attorney, will speak on the banquet’s theme, “We’ve Come Too Far To Turn Back Now: Vote.”
An author, columnist and Tougaloo College adjunct professor, Slaughter-Harvey also has worked as assistant secretary of state under Dick Molpus and as coordinator of the Mississippi State Democratic Party.
NAACP member and event organizer Henry Cobb called the speaker an accomplished Mississippian who has blazed a trail for not only women, but also African-Americans.
“We’re honored to have her at our banquet,” Cobb said.
The event, which starts at 6 p.m., will be held at the Oak Grove Christian Life Center in New Albany. Tickets cost $20, with proceeds funding the NAACP’s numerous programs, including its annual scholarship awards.
Awards for this year’s scholarships went to four local students.
