MUW celebrates music hall renovation

COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — After an extended renovation, Mississippi University for Women is readying for the formal reopening of Poindexter Hall.

The Commercial Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/QTvcK7) the building, long the centerpiece of the university's music programs, will be the focus of a preservation program and other activities Nov. 1-3.

The building includes classrooms, teaching studios, a music library and a recital hall. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.

A free recital is scheduled Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. featuring students, alumni and faculty. A concert by baritone James Martin of Millsaps College begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are required. Martin will present a free public program on Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.

The events are sponsored by the MUW Foundation and Columbus Cultural Heritage Foundation.
