Mrs. Lence said a sheet of glass in a back door was broken out to gain entrance sometime after the library closed Saturday afternoon. She discovered the burglary Sunday afternoon.
“We had a cigar box nailed inside a circulation desk drawer to keep the box from shifting. The nails were still there but the box was gone,” she said.
Whoever broke in cleaned up before leaving; no broken glass was found, Mrs. Lence said.
She credited Ripley police for a quick response. “I called the police immediately. They were wonderful, and quick to get here,” she said.
She said the library has been broken into previously, but not recently.
