Schaefer, MSU women face exhibition tonight

Vic Schaefer’s first game as the Mississippi State women’s basketball coach is tonight, as the Lady Bulldogs host Shorter in an exhibition game at 7.

Schaefer was hired to replace Sharon Fanning-Otis, who stepped down

after 17 years. He was previously an assistant at Texas A&M, which won the NCAA title in 2011.

The regular season will begin next Friday at home against Houston.

Shorter is in its first year as a Division II school.

Last year, the Lady Hawks went 28-7 and reached the NAIA national tourney.

MSU men: Sunday, home vs. William Carey, 4 p.m.

Ole Miss men: Monday, home vs. Montevallo, 7 p.m.

Ole Miss women: None.
