Wiggins has not been implicated in an on-going investigation.
The ban includes the SEC tournament, likely the only postseason for a squad that won just two conference games a year ago and is predicted to finish last in the league this season.
“In terms of what the NCAA can hand down, that’s all unknown. We don’t know that, but we feel that we’re taking the necessary steps to self-impose at a pretty serious level,” Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork said.
Bjork said other self-imposed penalties will come – likely including recruiting restrictions and scholarship cuts -- but he felt it was important to announce the postseason ban before the team’s first game.
He met with players and told them of his decision in the middle of the week.
We “told them this was a necessary step. It’s not their fault, but to try and shorten the window on everything it was necessary to do it now,” Bjork said.
