COLUMBUS — A Columbus man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in a fatal shooting that occurred in 2008 in Columbus.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that 22-year-old Lee Major Wilder Jr. entered the plea this week before Lowndes County Circuit Judge Lee Howard.

Howard originally had been charged with capital murder in the 2008 shooting death of 29-year-old Cornelius Cunningham in front of the victim's apartment.

Wilder also was charged with simple assault on a police officer from a 2011 incident where he assaulted a guard at the county jail. Wilder was sentenced to five years on the assault charge.
