TUPELO – The Black Friday line at Best Buy already has started and the store doesn’t open until midnight.

Pam Meeks of Baldwyn was camped out around 2 p.m. Wednesday in front of the store on North Gloster Street. She said she arrived around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

“It’s really not bad,” she said. “The weather’s great. We’re getting to meet people. This here is the best place to camp out. They gave us free pizza and Starbucks coffee last year.”

Meeks said she’s skipping Thanksgiving at home because she wants to get a deal on 40-inch and 50-inch televisions.

She’s keeping one and giving another as a gift. Her friend, Katie Jones, was keeping her company Wednesday afternoon.

Jones plans to camp out at Belk for discounted luggage and women’s boots.

“We just like good deals,” Meeks said.

Sleeping on the sidewalk is nothing new for Meeks, who camped out at Best Buy last year.

She’s passing the time this year by counting customers at Best Buy and talking with them.

“You got to be a people person to do this … or just crazy,” she said Wednesday.
