More Black Friday news at the Biz Buzz blogThe average American holiday shopper will spend about $750 on gifts, parties, decor and other seasonal items this year, according to research from the National Retail Federation.

The biggest chunk – $422 – will go toward gifts for family members. Friends, teachers, coworkers and pets also will get a little something this year, according to the research.

And, self-gifting continues to increase in popularity. Six in 10 shoppers plan to spend an average of $134 on “self-gifting” this holiday season.

When it comes to holiday wishlists, the usual culprits cropped up again: toys, DVDs, video games, electronics, jewelry, clothing, food, beauty items and books. But this year, more shoppers than ever told NRF they’d prefer a gift card.

The Daily Journal’s business team perused various retailers’ wish lists and best-selling items. These gifts, all available in Northeast Mississippi stores, got our attention.
