DERMA — The U.S. Postal Service has announced that the post office in Derma will only be open two hours a day six days a week.

WTVA-TV in Tupelo reports that USPS made the announcement at a public meeting at the local town hall Wednesday night.

The USPS originally had announced the post office would close.

The Derma post office will operate Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m.

Mayor Dock Gabbert says the post office was about the last thing that kept the town bonded together. He says the closing of post offices are detrimental to the survival of small towns around the country.
