Monday morning, supervisors heard from Gene Newman of Mississippi Warrant Network Inc., who explained its system of collecting court and garbage debts.
Supervisors’ President Phil Morgan said he’d like to make a decision about a possible contract at the group’s next meeting Dec. 17.
Other board members are Bobby G. Smith, Darrell Rankin, Tommie Lee Ivy and Billy Joe Holland.
After the meeting, Morgan said overdue debts were about $500,000 when he was first elected to office more than a decade ago.
“We’re swimming backwards,” he said.
Morgan suggested the board begin working on debts at least a year old.
The five-member board met for the first public session in its new facility at 300 W. Main St., formerly occupied by the Community Development Foundation.
Earlier, the public attended a ribbon-cutting and open house to see the spacious complex of meeting rooms and offices.
