ABERDEEN – William Bates of Saltillo pleaded guilty Monday to using a cellphone to entice a 14-year-old to have sex with him.

Bates, 40, was indicted last April on two federal counts, including transfer of obscene materials to minors, but his plea deal with the government provided that it would not charge him with anything else arising from the enticement charge.

He faces up to life in prison and not more than a $250,000 fine.

Bates will not be sentenced until a report is completed and approved to guide Senior U.S. District Judge Glen H. Davidson in his decision.
