KOSCOUSKO — Attala County hopes to break ground on its new jail next spring.

The Star Herald reports that the new jail is expected to cost $3.8 million.

The building of a new jail has been on in the works for some time in order to continue housing state inmates and due to the age of the current facility.

Land for the jail has been purchased near the county maintenance shop. A bid opening initial phase of earthwork is scheduled for Monday.

Officials say the jail will house about 65 inmates and have offices for the sheriff's department.
